With Roots on Meadowside now out of commission, the latest Mosh Monthly found a new home in Hidden, a bigger venue just round the corner on Ward Road.

The building has, in its long history, been used as numerous pubs, perhaps most enduringly as Deacon Brodie’s, where most of the band enjoyed a degree of over-refreshment when they were younger.

However, the building is actually part of a larger structure, incorporating the former Methodist church next door. This place of worship was built in 1865 and opened in 1866, providing seating and spiritual counsel to a capacity of 700 adherents.

Downstairs, in the venue we performed in, was actually a large schoolroom and three smaller classrooms, run by the church to offer guidance and education to Dundee’s youngsters. Perhaps appropriate for a band of four teachers!
